Cheryl Anne Robson, 19: “Ha, I never was a teen-ager! In high school, I was never a go-go football type. I had too many outside activities. It’s fun to be young, but there is a future to think about, and I want much more than my parents had. I believe I’m more aware than they are. Eventually? Marriage, I suppose. But now, I am going to experiment with new people and ideas, to get to know myself better.”

Melody Marx, 18: “I was born in Texas, and I have seen the landscape fall away. It’s kind of strange. Cattle used to stray around the back of our house, and now, there is a big subdivision, and the houses are everywhere. I remember all the oil-well derricks, the sand and the flatlands. I still love the low, open spaces that are left. I love the beach in Freeport on the Gulf and love to watch the sunrise and the sunset. It will always be important to me, to be alone at such times. I know, too, that for many reasons, I’m different than my parents, and my life will be different.”

Mary Layne, 16: “I love to dance our dances, the frug - all of it. It’s just great fun, and it’s important to all of us because of the tensions, the tensions about marks in school, for example. In our dances, you just have a blast at it. Maybe it’s the emotional aspect of it. You don’t have to worry about what anyone else is doing. It’s a private world, a private thing. The kids dance according to their own needs and get what they themselves want out of it.”

Shawn McFarland, 17: “If someone offered me a trip to Paris, I’d take the offer in one second flat. I’ve been on five jet flights in the United States so far, and I wouldn’t want to take a cruise. Just think of wasting all that time sitting on water! Instead of that, in five days, I could jet over to Paris and have so much fun over there.Paris is my favorite city. I know that I will always want to travel.”
